Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Browse AI's web monitoring tool.
Can I track changes from a website in a Google Sheet?

Yes, you can track website changes directly in a Google Sheet using our Google Sheets integration.

When you set up a monitor for your robot, all detected changes will automatically sync to your connected Google Sheet, keeping your data always up to date.

Here's how to set it up:

  1. Create and approve a robot that extracts and scrapes the data you want to monitor.
  2. Go to the "Integrate" tab and select Google Sheets.
  3. Click "Enable Syncing to Google Sheet" and authorize your Google account.
  4. Choose an existing spreadsheet or create a new one.
  5. Select which data you want to sync:
    • Changed or added data
    • Only changed data
    • Only added data
  6. Set up a monitor for your robot to check for changes on your schedule.

Each time your robot detects a change, it will automatically update your Google Sheet with the new data.

How does the website monitoring tool work?

Browse AI's monitoring tool automatically tracks changes on a website by running your robot on a schedule you define and notifying you when changes are detected.

Step 1: Train your robot to monitor and scrape the specific data you want.

  • Create a robot to scrape, extract and monitor data from a specific webpage.
  • You can train it to extract and monitor text, lists, and screenshots.
  • Robots can also be trained to scrape and monitor dynamic data including pagination, unlimited scrolling, filling out forms, clicking on toggles, etc.
  • Examples of what you can monitor, scrape or extract include product prices, inventory levels, job listings, or any other web page content. (Basically anything a human could manually monitor on a web page, you can train a robot to do.)

Step 2: Configure your web monitoring

  • Once you train your web monitoring robot, you can set up a monitor to review that content hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly.
  • You can also set up alerts and notifications based on these changes.

Step 3: Manage your website monitoring and change detection system

  • When a change is detected, the web monitoring system will compare each new extraction or scrape with the previous result.
  • The change detection system will mark each change using a color-coded system (green for new content, yellow for content that has changed, and red for content that has been removed).
  • You'll be notified of these website changes based on your notification settings.
  • You can turn on 'bulk monitoring' to monitor website changes across 50,000+ pages at once.
    • Upload a list of URLs to monitor into your configured robot to automatically monitor and scrape thousands of webpages.
    • Create workflows to monitor entire websites by connecting robots together.
  • The monitoring system can detect and notify you on many types of website changes including:
    • Text content changes on a website or web page.
    • New items being added to a list on a webpage.
    • Items being removed from a list on a webpage.
    • Position changes from a list (or results page).
    • Visual changes to entire web pages.
    • Visual changes to specific parts of a web page.

Step 4: Manage your change detection data

  • All of the data that is captured by your change detection robot is stored in your Browse AI account, giving you a historical database of all changes and website content.
  • You can export this data as a CSV, JSON, or AWS S3.
  • You can access this data via API or Webhook.
  • You can connect your change detection robot to your own system, tools or products via our REST API (trigger monitors to run, pull monitor data, and more).
  • You can integrate this data into 7,000+ tools and apps including:
    • Sync all monitored website data into a Google Sheet or Airtable.
    • Create automations and workflows with Zapier, Make.com, or Pabbly

What kind of website content changes does it track and/or monitor for?

Browse AI's monitoring system can track and detect any changes to a web page that a human could including text changes, visual changes, structure changes, and list item changes.

Detects and monitors text content changes on a web page:

  • New text added to a web page
  • Existing text on a page has changed
  • Text that has been removed or deleted
  • Text position has changed within a page

Detects and monitors list item changes:

  • New items added to a list (like products, job listings, or search results)
  • Existing list items changed with updated information
  • Items removed or deleted from a list
  • Items changing position within a list (tracked with position indicators, ex: from 1st to 8th)

Detects visual changes on a webpage:

  • Changes to an entire web page.
  • Changes to a specific part of a web page.
  • Can configure change alert and detection for visual changes based on the 'size' of the change.

Structural content changes on a page:

  • New sections added to a page.
  • Sections removed from a page.
  • Content structures reorganized or moved around.

All changes are highlighted using a color-coded system:

  • Green: new content that wasn't present previously.
  • Yellow: existing content that has been modified.
  • Red: content that has been removed.
What happens when the content updates on the page I'm monitoring?

When content updates on a page you're monitoring with Browse AI, your robot is trained to capture what specific changes have occurred, and (based on your notification preferences) alert you of these changes.

  1. Change detection to web pages:
    • Your robot checks for changes according to your monitoring schedule.
    • It compares the newly extracted data with previous versions.
    • If it detects that there's been a change to that website content, those changes are identified and categorized as new, modified, or deleted content.
  2. Highlighting to you 'what' has changed:
    • Changes are color-coded in your Browse AI dashboard:
      • Green: new content has been added.
      • Yellow: existing content that has been modified or changed.
      • Red: content that has been removed or deleted.
    • Position changes in lists are indicated with numbers (e.g., -2 means the item moved up 2 positions).
  3. Notification delivery
    • If enabled, you receive an email notification containing details about the detected changes.
    • The email shows exactly what changed with color highlighting.
  4. Historical web page change log
    • All changes (and historical versions of that web page or data) are stored in your Browse AI account's history.
    • You can view the complete history of a specific web page and its data over time.
    • The data is accessible through your robot's History tab or Tables view.
    • You can export or integrate this data into your existing tools, apps, or workflows.
